Love in a Box

When: Between Monday 27th October and Saturday 27th November
Where: St Michael's Church
Contact: Pat Palmer 01233 770557

The church will again be collecting shoe boxes filled with gifts for underprivileged children in Eastern Europe on behalf of the Mustard Seed Relief Mission, a charity based in Eastbourne, and as before your contributions will be greatly appreciated. For information on what to put in the boxes for the different age groups, click here and follow the links to the right of the page.

If you do not have a suitable shoe box the church will have a stock for you to use. Please attach the leaflet (which you will find in church) and enclose a donation of at least £1.50 to help with the charity's expenses. You can bring completed shoe boxes to the church between the dates given above. Boxes will be collected daily.

FOSC Scrabble

When: November 2008 to March 2009
Application deadline: 26th October
Contact: Bob Barnes 01233 770355

A Scrabble league is being set up to play over the winter with a match fee of £2, proceeds to Friends of Smarden Church. Depending on how many participants there are, there will be a number of qualifying leagues with a knock-out series at the end of the season. Each player should expect to play around 10 games.

Players will be given a list of opponents and are requested to make their own arrangements to play. All matches must be completed by the end of March.

Polish a Pew

When: Week beginning Monday, 8th December 2008
Where: St Michael's Church

Help us get the church looking its best for the Christmas services. If we provide the liquid wax polish, can you spare us some "elbow grease" and spray it on, and polish it off later when dry?

There will be a plan at the back of the church, just put your name against the pew or pews for which you would like to take responsibility. There are always plenty of people taking part so it should be fun.

Christmas Party

When: Friday, 19th December
Where: Smarden Charter Hall
Contact: Barbara Marchant, 01233 770359; Tony Lush, 01233 770350; David King, 01233 770400.

7.30 for 8.00, two-course supper and disco to suit all tastes. Tickets £16 now on sale.
